Blessing of the House of Prayer ambry
Location: St. Margaret's Church

Bishop Larry Benfield will celebrate the Eucharist at St. Margaret's. During the service he will bless the ambry for the House of Prayer. Father Gary McConnell will preach.

The ambry was given by Kay Kelley Arnold in memory of her husband Richard Sheppard Arnold. Praying near the reserved sacrament holds a special place in the spiritual practice for some Christians. The reserved sacrament that will be held in the ambry at the House of Prayer will be changed each week by the St. Margaret's altar guild.

As Episcopalians we believe that Christ's presence is heightened in the consecrated bread and wine, and for some, praying near the ambry and the sanctuary candle that is over it, increases awareness of Christ's presence during their prayers. Come join us for this special service and for coffee and dessert at St. Margaret's Welcome Center afterwards.

Resources for Prayer and Meditation

Centering Prayer

Paraphrased and quoted from Thomas Keating, Open Mind, Open Heart

1. Choose a sacred word. This word is a “symbol of your intention to consent to the presence and action of God within.”
2. Sit with eyes closed in a comfortable position and “introduce the sacred word.”
3. When thoughts distract you, “ever-so-gently”return to the sacred word.
4. At the end of your prayer time take some time in silence for a few minutes to transition back.
